  1. Many reviews, much said. All of the positive things are true; almost none of the negative things are. I first heard this music as a freshman in college. The local stereo shop was Sun Stereo in Palo Alto. The store is gone, but the music remains. They had a copy of Gabor's greatest hits on Skye. The album was "Blowin' Some Old Smoke".
  2. Gabor Szabo was one of the most original guitarists to emerge in the s, mixing his Hungarian folk music heritage with a deep love of jazz and crafting a distinctive, largely self-taught sound. Born in Budapest, on March 8, , Szabo was inspired by a Roy Rogers cowboy movie to begin playing guitar when he was 14 and often played in dinner.

  4. Jazz Raga, recorded in August of , and released in early , is Hungarian jazz guitarist Gabor Szabo's third album for Impulse!, and his most exotic and mysterious. Szabo not only played guitar on the live-to-two-track sessions, he also overdubbed sitar on nine of the album's eleven cuts. Produced by Bob Thiele and engineered by Rudy Van Gelder, it combines Szabo's singular guitar sound.

  6. So the round pickup in the center of the round hole on the Martin D was the real basic sound for Gabor Szabo. During the period of time I knew Gabor, he had also played some other guitars. One was a Gibson round-hole, a JE. This guitar has a single-coil unit that sits at the end of the fretboard.
