  3. Lamar Crowson was most famous as pianist with the melos ensemble of London. The clementi sonatas, regularly studied by piano students, but now increasingly the province of repertoire at piano competitions and major recitals, is still very rare on CD. The two l'oiseau-lyre lps making up this 2 cd set have never before been issued on CD.5/5(1).

  6. Muzio Clementi (23 January , Rome – 10 March , Evesham, Worcestershire, England) was an celebrated Italian classical music musician, composer, pianist, piano teacher, orchestral conductor, music publisher, editor and piano manufacturer.
  7. Howard Shelley’s series of Clementi’s piano sonatas is receiving great critical acclaim and is increasing popular interest in this under-recorded composer. The sonatas in the present volume date from the period just after Clementi’s adventures in Europe of –83 that included an unfortunate and well-known confrontation with Mozart, and a protracted stay in Lyons.
  8. Plantinga tends to oversell Clementi a bit; the first movement of the Piano Sonata in F major, Op. 13/5, has little in common with the finale of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 32 in C minor, Op. , beyond a few very simple intervals in its main theme.
  9. This is the first volume in a complete chronological survey of the Clementi sonatas which we hope to complete in six '2 for the price of 1' double CD sets released over the next three years. There is very little competition for this repertoire and indeed this volume appears to include the first ever recording of Clementi's six sonatas Opus 1.
